Hardsuit - reposted!

I've been meaning to post this for years but am only now getting around to it.  This was done fairly quickly for a few hundred bucks.  I shot the battle sequence in my garage using miniatures mixed with scale models and did the FX in iMovie.  The repair bay set was also done in my garage in Seattle modified from a previous set used for another short.  The actress in it, Monica, was awesome and we're talking about a sequel.  Bring on the big budget and effects!

Speeder

One of the cool things about 3D is that when the model is done you have so many options
in terms of imaging.  I built this speeder type craft in 3D and have been fooling around with atmosphere and lighting scenarios, off and on, for a couple of months.   It was also in a painting that you can find further back in the blog entries.

ALMIGHTY

My good buddy comic book artist Ed Laroche wrote and illustrated a Graphic novel called "Almighty"
An awesome, post-apocalyptic punch in the neck that serves up goodness by the bucket fulls!  It is currently in option by a prominent director and movie studio and Ed had me do some concepts for the movie script for the fun of it.  Below is the "Juggernaut", the main character's bike in the script.  I had to knock this out very quickly so it is a pastiche of a few google warehouse pieces and a whole lot of modeling by myself within a very shot span of time.  For a quick concept I rather dig it.  Post apocalyptic bikes with mounted machine guns rule!

More stuff from black ice planet

I keep wanting to revisit this world of cold, black ice and expand on it.  I came up with some more scenarios, an armada of alien ships and a lone, massive vehicle on the planet's surface.

Spaceship launch station

In my previous "black ice planet" enviro' posts (see speed modeling #2) I had small red lights on the distant horizon on a few of the paintings.  I began to think about what those lights were.  A remote facility like the Antarctic station in "The Thing"?  A lone transmitter antenna jutting up out of the frozen wasteland?  I decided to go with a vehicle launch station of some kind.  In keeping with the aesthetic of the icy environment I made the station a raw, polished metal material.  Perfect for reflecting cool highlights and the environment surrounding it!   I still have few details to put in but it's 80% there.

Speed Modeling round #2

I love snowy, icy weather and wanted to do some landscapes representing that but not with a traditional look. I thought of isolation, remoteness and possibly an earth type planet when came I up with these.
I modeled the terrain in Sketchup, rendered in Keyshot, and used a Dutch Skies HDRI for my sky image which I then "surrealized" and painted over in Photoshop. All modeling and images from start to finish took about 2 hours.
Working on TRON: Uprising, I have also been inspired by Alberto Mielgo's graphically inclined backgrounds for the show.

Speed modeling

I decided to go into Sketchup at least once a week and do some quick, unplanned, unsketched out shapes. The modeling equivalent of speed painting. I also include beauty renders for finishing. I have no idea what I came up with it but since Green Lantern popped in my mind at the end I ended up putting the symbol (off the web) on the front of what I guess is a ship of some sort. It's more of an exercise to model quicker and to present new technical challenges to myself. All images from Sketchup >Keyshot >Photoshop took about an hour and a half total.

International buyers

Hey fellow bloggers, I've been getting a lot of requests for my book from outside of the U.S. and sadly the shipping costs are so high it has become cost prohibitive for buyers. But fear not as there are a couple of options. One is a digital download of the book I have been seriously contemplating putting out in the near future that will be much cheaper than the physical version. The second option is to head over to Stuart Ng books (clink this post title above for link) and buy several other art/illustration books, with mine included in that stack of goodness to make higher shipping costs feasible. You can ship several books for the flat rate so that makes it worth it, right? C'mon, sure it does! To all you brave souls in general who have been buying the book thanks for your support. I'm already gearing up for Autodraw Vol 2 and trust me when I say, it will blow your socks off! And if you don't wear socks, well, put some on. It's going to be winter soon and the floors get really cold. Adios!
